Daily Prayers
Salah (prayers) is the second pillar of Islam. Praying five times a day is obligatory upon every worshipper. Muslims follow the practices (Hadiths) of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and during the prayers, verses from the Quran are recited.
The five daily prayers consist of:
Fajr (Dawn)
Dhuhr (Noon)
Asr (Afternoon)
Maghrib (Sunset)
Ishaa (Night)
Jummah Prayers
Jummah prayers (Friday prayers) is prayed instead of Dhuhr prayers on Fridays. This is just after noon time. The prayers are made in the congregation prior to which a Khutbah (Islamic talk) is given by the Imam. Everyone stands in the congregation and prays 2 rak’aat of Jummah Salah together following the Imam as the leader.
Jummah prayers are compulsory in particular for men. However, if Jummah prayers are not prayed in the congregation then one should pray Dhuhr as you would normally.
Parramatta Mosque provides three Khutbah sessions during Friday Prayers for local residents, workers, visitors, and guests. Each session runs for 30 mins allowing you to join the Khutbah talk given by the Imam and thereafter pray in the congregation before the next Khutbah begins. Since this is the only Mosque running in the Parramatta vicinity, we ask all the attendees to pray their Sunnah at work or other locations, due to the Mosque getting busy and in order to prevent overcrowding.
Eid prayers
During the Islamic lunar calendar, there are two major events that are celebrated, these relate to:
Eid Al Fitr
Eid Al Adha
Generally, Eid is a three-day celebration whereby families and communities visit each other and celebrate by exchanging gifts and sharing festive meals.
Eid Al-Fitr is the celebration marking the end of Ramadan (the month of fasting)
Eid Al Adha is the second Eid where Muslims celebrate the end of the Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj). During this time, animals are slaughtered and sacrificed in accordance with Islamic traditions and the meat is distributed amongst the poor people.
Parramatta Mosque accommodates in providing congregational prayers for Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, the services are provided for both men and women (please note, that a separate designated area is provided for the sisters).
Eid Prayers are usually offered in Parramatta Park (if weather permits) or at Parramatta Mosque (if it is raining). The Iqama time for Eid Prayers will be announced closer to the date.

Ramadan iftar
Ramadan is the third pillar of Islam and it is in this blessed month that the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and it is a sacred month in which the worshippers observe a 30 day fast from dawn to sunset where one abstains from all invalidators of Fasting including eating, drinking and having an intimate relationship with one’s spouse.
The purpose of fasting is to submit and surrender to The Creator, Allah Subhannahu Wa Taala (SWT). Fasting allows for worshippers to gain perseverance by abstaining from the worldly pleasures. This is attained by spending time in salah (prayer) and dhikr (remembrance) of Allah SWT through additional prayers, recitation of the Quran or devotional acts of worship.
During the blessed month of Ramadan, Parramatta Mosque is privileged to host more than 300 worshippers for Iftaar (breaking of the fast) and Suhoor (pre-dawn meal). This is provided across the 30-days fasting period as donated by the community and organized by the management team of Parramatta Mosque.
Parramatta Mosque also provides Taraweeh prayers that are carried out during Ramadan, led by the Imam of Parramatta Mosque. We also host additional Qari from overseas to cover the extra religious activities of Ramadan.

Zakkat
Zakat is the fourth pillar of Islam and it is a form of giving with its purpose to create a balance of wealth in the society and help those in need. It relates to giving a proportion of ones’ wealth to charity. Zakat is mandatory for those who are financially stable and it should be paid to the disadvantaged and those in need.

Hajj
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. It is a pilgrimage to Kaaba (The House of Allah) situated in the sacred city Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It is obligatory for Muslims who are financially and physically in a capacity to carry out the pilgrimage.

Community activities
Sadaqah is known as voluntary charity. Sadaqah can be in the form of teaching someone to read the Quran, Duaa or Dhikr, sharing of knowledge, planting a tree, building a mosque, steps taken towards Salah (prayers) or making contributions and donations.

Sisters Area
Parramatta Mosque is a place of worship open to all cultures and backgrounds. The Mosque caters in providing a designated space for sisters to pray their five daily prayers, throughout the week and inclusive of weekends.
The Mosque provides a separate area for the sisters to pray in the congregation or in solitude.
Facilities include a separate wudu (ablution) area for the sisters, providing bathroom amenities where you can perform your ablution in complete privacy.
Praying materials are also available for use. These include scarves, hijabs, jilbabs (full-length outer garments covering head and hands) and skirts.
Sisters will have access to utilizing the building lifts when exiting the Mosque throughout the week including weekends
During Jummah (Friday prayers), sisters still have access to the designated Salah (prayer area). The sisters are welcome to join any of the three Khutbah sessions that run during Fridays and to join the congregational prayers at the end of the Khutbah.
